DON'T SUPPORT LIME CRIME!

Monday 23 February 2015

I decided to create this blog to show off incredible vegan products whether they be food brands, makeup, clothing companies, etc. I wasn't planning on writing negative reviews simply because I don't see the point. If I love a product, then it's worth my time. If it's not, then it's not worth writing about. But with Lime Crime, I've decided to make an exception to my rule. If you don't like negativity, maybe it's best not to read this. I have decided that Lime Crime is a company too corrupt to not write about and I can't risk anyone believing that this company is really as cruelty free as they say they are.

Yes, they've done some shady things in the past. All of these things will be listed below under the cut. But more recently, they have put the bank accounts of their supporters in danger and it is NOT OKAY. Basically, if you don't want your credit card details sold by a sociopathic CEO, don't buy any Lime Crime products.

Doe Deere, or Xenia Vorotova is the CEO of Lime Crime. And since 2008 her company has been the subject of some controversy. There has been charity scams, they've lied to customers and more recently they have stolen customer credit card details and hundreds of customers bank accounts have been drained.

This was first brought to attention in November 2014, when customers complained on social media about loosing money. Before then, there has been complaints about lost orders and no refunds, but in November, more and more people have been coming forward with their stories and experiences until Feburary 16th 2015 when the media found about this and on the same day, Lime Crime and Doe Deere released a statement about the recent credit card scandal.

So, is it wrong of the company to release a statement three months late and only when the media had heard about it? What about the other sketchy things the company and the CEO have done in the past seven years? Below is a list of reasons I personally decided to never buy Lime Crime products and after this recent scandal, I'm glad I made the right decision.

Vegan and Cruelty Free?

Lime Crime is advertised as a vegan and cruelty free company with the logos under the descriptions and ingredients of each products. However, some customers have spotted non-vegan ingredients in the product descriptions including things like beeswax and petroleum. When people expressed their concerns about these ingredients followed by the vegan logo, the ingredients were removed from the product description list in a matter of hours.

I know Lime Crime don't think their customers are naive enough to believe they changed the ingredients and manufactured a new identical product in that time. I think it's obvious that Lime Crime have no concerns about lying to their customers and selling their products as vegan when they quite clearly aren't.

Charity Scam?

This one is more closely related to the current credit card theft debacle. It's very easy to question Doe Deere's ethics after the charity scam in 2007. Doe Deere held a raffle to win prizes such as stuffed unicorns and jewellery for a small fee that said would go to an animal charity. When questioned about the charity, Doe became defensive and stated 'The Brooklyn Shelter' which does not exist. Her Paypal account was suspended after this.

Culturally Appropriate?

Lime Crime has never been culturally appropriate. They released a 'China Doll' palette in 2012 which raises all sorts of questions. And in 2007, Doe released a retrospective picture of herself dressed as Hitler on social media, which has since been deleted. I know, I know, people make mistakes and do stupid things in the past, but there has never been an apology issued since the occasions.

Customer Service

Lime Crime are notorious for dreadful customer service. On occasions, they have photoshopped fans pictures and reposted them to help sell the brand. They have singled out, blocked and abused customers with negative opinions on social media. Furthermore, since the recent credit card scandal, Lime Crime have been ignoring customers emails and complaints.

So, to end this blog post, I clearly would not recommend Lime Crime and the point of this was to keep you all informed and cautious. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
  1. I'm so glad that the cosmetics industry is starting to receive some attention for the false claims they've been making. I hear Red Apple Lipstick is very good (few chemicals and friendly) but they are a little more pricey.
